For Hockey Players
Social media, NIL and partnerships can feel confusing. They don’t have to be.
You do not need to post every day, build a huge following or turn yourself into a content creator.
You do need to understand what matters, what brands may be looking for, and what to know when opportunities come your way.
Player Partnerships helps make sense of:
You Don’t Need to Turn Hockey Into a Content Business
Social media can help.
Partnerships can be valuable.
NIL can create opportunities.
But none of that means you need to become a full-time creator.
Hockey is still the priority.
The goal is to understand how social media, partnerships and your online presence fit into your hockey path so that when an opportunity comes up, you are not trying to figure everything out for the first time.

FAQ
Start With Your Question
How do hockey sponsorships work?
A sponsorship could mean free product, an ambassador relationship, affiliate income, paid content or a larger brand partnership.
The important part is understanding what the brand is offering, what they expect from you and whether the opportunity actually makes sense.
How does NIL work for hockey players?
NIL rules can depend on where you play, where you go to school and what hockey path you are on.
This becomes especially important for players navigating NCAA hockey, major junior, university hockey or opportunities across Canada and the United States.
What makes a hockey player attractive to brands?
It is not just follower count.
Brands may also care about:
- where you play
- who follows you
- your personality
- your reputation
- your interests outside hockey
- where you live
- how you communicate
- whether you are a natural fit for the brand
A smaller player account can still be valuable if the fit is right.
What should I post?
You do not need to make every practice, workout or game into content.
A strong hockey profile might include:
- game and tournament moments
- accomplishments
- training
- team moments
- community involvement
- interests outside hockey
- partnership content when relevant
The goal is not to post constantly.
It is to give someone a clearer idea of who you are.
Should I have a separate hockey account?
Sometimes.
A separate hockey account can make sense if you want to keep your personal account private while still having a public place for hockey.
Other players may be better off with one well-managed public profile.
There is no rule that every serious player needs two accounts.
What if a brand reaches out to me?
Do not feel like you need to say yes right away.
Before agreeing to anything, understand:
- what the company wants
- what you are being asked to post or do
- what you receive in return
- how long the agreement lasts
- whether the brand can use your name, image or content
- whether there are exclusivity requirements
- whether there is a contract
If you have an agent or representative, involve them when the opportunity involves compensation, contracts, usage rights or bigger commitments.
Player Partnerships can also help you understand what you are looking at and what questions to ask before that conversation.
What can people see when they look me up?
Coaches, teams, schools, brands and potential partners can easily search your name.
You do not need a perfectly polished profile.
But it is worth knowing whether your public presence reflects the person and player you want them to see.
Need Help With Something Specific?
